Patnitop: Confluence of adventure and natural beauty

Patnitop is a stable beautiful plateau in Jammu and Kashmir, 112 km from Jammu, situated at an altitude of 2024 meters above sea level. Patnitop is a beautiful and famous hill station located in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir. You can also enjoy snowfall here in winter. This place was originally known as ‘Patan da Talab’.

This place was originally known as ‘Patan Da Talab’ which means ‘Princess’s Pond’. According to a legend, the princess used this pond every day for bathing. However, after a few years its name changed from ‘Patan ka Talab’ to Patnitop. Dense forests, natural attractions, pine trees make this place an attractive destination. The rolling hills, breathtaking views and tranquil atmosphere make Patnitop an ideal picnic spot. There are three freshwater springs in this area. A large number of tourists visit Patnitop during the winter season to participate in skiing and trekking. Patnitop is also suitable for other activities like golf, paragliding, aero sports, horse riding and photography.

Sightseeing places:-
Popular tourist places include Nag (Cobra) Temple, Buddha Amarnath Temple, Bahu Fort, Kud and Shiv Garh. Sudh Mahadev – Situated at an altitude of 1225 meters near Patnitop, pilgrims worship the Trishul during the full moon day of Sawan (July-August). It is said that this trident is related to Lord Shiva.

Adventure:-

Tracking- There are many types of tracking options available here. Most of the trekking routes are open during the summer season, while some are open during winter also. You can camp at some places on these trekking routes. You can choose any exciting track in Sundarrani Jungle, Gali Jasarkote, Sanasar.
Skiing- Skiing program in Patnitop is organized in the month of January and February. Tourist introductory programs are also organized on the slopes of Patniton during winter. Madhatop, located at a distance of six kilometers from Patnitop on Sanasar Road, is an excellent place for skiing.
Aero Sports- You can go paragliding in Jammu and Sanasar. The best time for paragliding is May to June and September to October.

How to reach:-
Patnitop does not have an airport and railway station. Tourists can easily reach here from Jammu. After reaching Jammu Railway Station or Jammu Airport, tourists can take a state transport bus or taxi.

The Manasbal Lake, about 30 kilometers away from Srinagar, is a treasure trove for the discerning traveller and for the people who love hiking. There are a number of things you can do at the Manasbal Lake, like hiking up to the ruins of a 17th century fort known as the Darogabagh fort, visiting the ancient temple by the lake, taking a shikara ride, birdwatching and photography. Due to its distance from the city, the Manasbal Lake gets lesser number of visitors which makes it an ideal picnic spot. The shikara ride over here is a joy as there aren’t many shikara shops to pester you to buy knick knacks during the ride. Around sunset, a large flock of ducks gathers around the middle of the lake. They, against the setting sun make for a beautiful photo opportunity. In the months of July and August, Lotus flowers bloom in the lake and are harvested by the locals. Photography and hiking opportunities abound during this period.
